Ben Plotnick: Fiddle player, guitarist, violist, composer and arranger.
Ben Plotnick was born 23 years ago, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His entire life since then has revolved almost exclusively around music. Born into a family of symphonic musicians, in didn’t take Ben long to start playing the violin. While focusing quite seriously on classical music throughout his childhood, he began to experiment with other styles of music as well. Before long, as a fiddle player and a classical violist, Ben was travelling the world with several groups, playing for notable audiences along the way. Before his 18th birthday, he had already performed for Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, Prime Minister Steven Harper, former Lieutenant Governor Norman Kwong, and many other dignitaries around the world. He had also performed on 4 continents in places such as New Zealand, South Korea, the UK and all across North America, representing Calgary, Alberta and Canada along the way.
After studying jazz at Humber College in Toronto, Ben made his way back to Alberta. Now a versatile improviser, composer, arranger, performer and session musician, Ben has also released 3 solo albums, as well as many other collaborative projects. Ben can be found playing with or recording for various acts primarily across Alberta.
‘Dancing at the End of the World’, Ben’s new studio album, is the culmination of all his creative efforts to date. The album can best be described as a complex, yet accessible and melodic modern bluegrass project. Ten original songs feature world-class musicianship, and excellent production.
From Irish folks groups, to Country bands, from Klezmer groups to rock bands, Ben continues to define himself as one of Canada's best young fiddle players.
